Lisa Teixeira

Lisa Teixeira has been the librarian and department chair for the Kennett High School Library since 1997. Before coming to Kennett High School, she worked as a librarian in academic, public, and non-profit libraries. Lisa didn’t realize then that the high school setting was a perfect fit for her passion for learning, teaching, and service. She is so very thankful that she made the switch to school libraries and to Kennett.

School libraries have changed a great deal since ’97, but continue to prepare students to become more active, critical, and informed thinkers. And while formats have changed, reading remains the foundation for learning. The power and pleasure of reading that Lisa instills in her students was nurtured from an early age. Hellen Keller’s Story of My Life deeply moved her when she was in the fourth grade, she even walked around her house blindfolded for weeks. In high school, her favorite was One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, her teenage self certainly related to its’ anti-authoritarian themes. Books have accompanied Lisa on her journey through life, provoking, entertaining, challenging, enlightening, enriching, and escaping. She hopes KHS will join her on the reading journey.
