For Students

• Every student in grades K through 5 is assigned a District Chromebook, charger and headset to use for the school year.
• You are in charge of taking care of the computer, charger and headset, so always be careful when using or carrying the equipment.

• When We Use Tech: We use computers, the Internet, and other tech things at school, during events, at home, or even on our own devices for school things.
• Taking Care of Tech: If we have a school computer and headset, we have to take care of them.
• If we break it or lose it, we might need to pay for a new one.
• Elementary students will keep their school computer in their classroom unless a teacher says otherwise.
• KMS & KHS students bring their computer and charger home and to school every day.
• Using Personal Stuff: We can use our own devices if our teacher says it's okay.
   

• School Stuff Only: We use computers and the Internet to learn. Only use the software and apps the school says are good for learning.
• Being Responsible: We need to be careful and follow the rules. We shouldn't try to get around the rules or look at things we're not supposed to.
• Being Respectful Online: When we talk to others online, we should be nice and respectful. If we see someone doing something wrong, we can tell a teacher.

• For Learning: Use computers and the Internet to learn, find information, and do school work.
• Being Honest: We need to do our own work and not copy from others or use things that a computer made for us.
• Being Safe: Keep your own information private, and be nice when you talk to others online. Don't be mean or do things that hurt others.
• Tell Adults: If something is wrong or not safe online, tell a teacher.

If you're not sure about something or need help with tech stuff, ask your teacher or another
grown-up at school. They're here to help you.

When you use technology the right way, you show that you're being a good and responsible digital
citizen. You also help make our online school community a happy place. Let's team up to use our tech tools well and respect the rules that come with them.

All students are required to review and sign the Acceptable Use Guidelines and abide by the KCSD Acceptable Use Policy  (Policy 815), whether using a personal or district device. Every teacher will also have specific procedures for device use in their classroom. Please follow these rules just like any other to maintain a safe and productive learning environment for all.

The primary purpose of the technology resources provided by the school is to facilitate learning, teaching, and daily operations. These resources include computers, electronic communication systems, and network access (wired or wireless). They offer opportunities for accessing information, engaging in research, collaborating with peers, and enhancing the educational experience.
 

Students, staff, and authorized individuals are given access to the school's computers, network, and Internet, whether on school property, during events, at home, or using personal devices for appropriate school-related educational and operational purposes. 

• All K-12 students are assigned a District Chromebook and assume full responsibility of the device and charger, including incurring any costs that occur while in your possession, including full replacement in the event of theft.
• Elementary students will maintain their District Chromebooks in the classrooms unless otherwise advised by the Building Administrator. 
• Secondary students are expected to bring their fully charged District Chromebook and charger to school every day.
• Personal device use in the classroom is at the discretion of the teacher,  (if an approved device).
   

Use school-provided devices and network resources for learning purposes. Install only approved software and apps. Do not attempt to bypass security measures or access restricted content. Whether using school-owned devices, personal devices, or another entity's devices, the focus is on appropriate school-related educational and operational purposes.

Using technology means being responsible and following the rules. We must not damage or misuse the school's technology resources. Always remember to be respectful and kind when communicating online and report any violations, damages or technical issues to a teacher or school staff.

All students are responsible for using technology appropriately and lawfully. The guidelines are in place to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy access to these resources and utilize them in ways that align with the school's educational mission. Users are expected to follow these guidelines and all relevant codes of conduct, policies, procedures, and rules.

Academic integrity requires that students produce work reflective of their individual skills and abilities, and includes responsible and ethical use of AI technology. Taking credit for the work of others, including AI-generated content, is not permissible. When using online resources, make sure to give proper credit to the original creators of content.

Protect your privacy and the privacy of others. Personal information should never be shared, and online interactions should be respectful and kind. Cyberbullying, harassment, and inappropriate behavior are strictly prohibited. Report any concerns about safety or inappropriate content to a teacher or school staff.

• Be sure to fully charge your device the night before
• Be sure to bring your device and charger to school EVERY DAY
• Be sure to never leave your device unattended

Technology resources are for school-related activities and job duties related to education. This includes accessing information, doing research, collaborating with classmates, and completing school assignments. Whether using school-owned devices, personal devices, or another entity's devices, the focus is on appropriate school-related educational and operational purposes.

• Student brings device to library during scheduled times & is provided a Loaner Chromebook
• Library Team submits a Tech Work Order with details for each field of the online form
• Tech Dept diagnosis > repairs > updates work order and returns device to library
• Library Team arranges time to return the device to student and collect the Loaner Chromebook

• Personal devices are allowed per teacher discretion, if an approved device, (see below), but must have their District Chromebook and charger accessible in school at all times.
• Students who repeatedly fail to bring their District device to school could have wifi restricted on personal device.
• Approved Devices:
  • Chromebooks (not exceeding the AUE, Windows 8.1 or newer)
  • Apple laptops & iPads*
• Be aware,: there are limitations with iPads & other tablets when trying to access online content.
   

• Charging lockers that were installed at KMS and KHS are available for students to charge both District and personal devices.
• Each slot is passcode protected and has (2) regular electrical outlets and (2) USB ports for charging
• Students will be expected to provide their own chargers and remember the unique, 4-digit passcode they set when storing their devices.

• Power ON your Chromebook
• Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi
• Select the time (clock) in the lower right hand corner (ie: 3:47 or 12:00 or whatever time it is)
• Click the setting cog/wheel
• Click "About Chrome OS"
• Check for Updates

• At the login screen, click on the Apps grid in the lower left corner > Bluebook
• If your device does NOT meet the requirements, update your Chromebook by following directions in this section: Updating Your Chromebook
