Our District
We're Busy Building Our Future
In August 2024, Dr. Kimberly Rizzo Saunders accepted the position of Superintendent of the Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD) after serving eight years as Superintendent of the Contoocook Valley School District in New Hampshire.*
Since moving her family to Pennsylvania, she has immersed herself in the KCSD community, listening and learning from students, parents, staff, teachers, and community leaders.
Her 90-Day Entry Plan: Listen, Learn, Lead has guided her through 70 one-to-one interviews (including with 4 past superintendents), focus groups (including 102 participants), meetings with key constituents, surveys of more than 1,000 respondents, and extended visits to all six school buildings.
In January 2025, Dr. Rizzo Saunders presented her findings in a multi-page report that highlighted the strengths, challenges, and opportunities for meeting the goals of our stakeholders. She found a District rooted in tradition, diversity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in education.
The recommendations made in the resulting report will guide the creation of a five (5)-year Strategic Education Plan to be released in the fall of 2025.
All KCSD stakeholders— its students, families, staff, teachers, and business, faith, and community leadership—has contributed to this expansive report. Together, led by Dr. Kimberly Rizzo Saunders, we aim to achieve a common vision where every student has the opportunity to thrive, every voice is heard, and every potential is realized.
*Rizzo Saunders, who earned her doctorate in education at Northeastern University, was named New Hampshire Superintendent of the year for 2024 and was later selected as one of four finalists for the National Superintendent of the Year by AASA, The School Superintendents Association for the same year.
Welcome to Our District
The Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD) is a Public School District serving approximately 4,000 K-12 students in the southeastern part of Chester County via six (6) schools, including a school solely dedicated to kindergarten. In addition, KCSD boasts its one-of-a-kind Legacy Fields Complex, the largest contiguous synthetic turf field in the State of Pennsylvania.
Political subdivisions existing within the 34.17 mile District include the Borough of Kennett Square, Kennett Township, New Garden Township and a portion of East Marlborough Township.
A bright future begins for our youngest students at the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center, a joyful learning environment where our youngest students learn, play, and explore together.
Students then attend first through fifth grade at one of our three elementary schools: Bancroft, Greenwood or New Garden Elementary School. Two (2) new, state-of-the-art elementary schools are currently being constructed to replace both Greenwood and New Garden in August 2026.
Our elementary students then reunite at the beautiful, modern, Kennett Middle School, a Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn School to Watch for five (5) years, most recently for 2024.
High School life is spent in our historic Kennett High School, where our celebrated educational programs, future ready programs, and rich extra-curricular opportunities shepherd our students through a rich educational experience. We also have a partnership with the Chester County Technical College High School, a public high school specializing in career and technical education for students in grades 10-12 operated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit on behalf of Chester County's 12 public school districts.
At KCSD, we’re particularly proud of our multicultural community. Forty-five percent identify as Hispanic. Our multilingual learners hail from multiple countries, including: Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela and Panama.* Another 48% identify as white.
While excellence in education is a nearly century-old tradition in KCSD, we do not rest on our laurels. Together with our professional public educators, parents and partners, we’re busy building a 21st century educational experience for all. Every one of our students is on a journey to succeed in the world– and it’s our job to help them.
