Our websites share important updates, calendars, and news. They are easy to use on a computer, tablet, or mobile phone. Please visit often to stay up to date.

We use email, phone calls, and text messages to share important information. To receive messages, make sure your contact information is up to date in the Skyward Family Access Portal.

To receive text messages, you must opt in.

• Text “Y” to 67587 from your mobile device
• Use the same mobile phone number you entered into the Skyward Family Access Portal
• You only need to opt in once

To stop messages, text “STOP” to 67587. If you change your phone number in the Skyward Family Access Portal, you will need to opt in again.

Please note that text messages as noted here are for mass notification across the district and are separate from the TalkingPoints app or messages you may receive or send to your child’s teacher through TalkingPoints.

TalkingPoints allows teachers and families to communicate in many languages.

• Messages are translated into your home language
• You can reply by text message or use the free app
• Teachers receive messages in English

To use TalkingPoints, you must have a primary cell phone number in Skyward. 

Important: Teachers may not see messages right away. For late arrivals or early dismissals, please contact your school’s attendance office.

How Do I Get Messages?

If you want to receive TalkingPoints messages via text, you do not have to do anything.  You will receive messages via text from your classroom based on your cell phone number.  Carrier rates apply.  You may not initially recognize the number when you receive the text; please make sure you save the contact in your contacts on your phone.

If you prefer, you can download the TalkingPoints app for your phone.  With the app, all TalkingPoints messages go to one place and it is convenient if you have multiple children in multiple classes/schools.  The app can also read your messages via an audio feature and allows for "likes" and delivered receipts.  Simply download the app, choose your preferred language, and find your classroom.

If school schedules change due to weather or safety concerns (delay, early dismissal, or closure), we will notify families through:

• Website
• Email
• Text message
• Phone call
• Social media

Make sure your contact information entered in the Skyward Family Access Portal is current and that you have opted in to text messages.

Note: Some programs (like TCHS) may follow a different schedule. Please check with your child’s program. Out-of-district programs follow their own schedules.  Families must check with their child’s program to determine the impact of early dismissals, delayed openings and district closures. 

KCSD uses social media to share highlights and updates.

• Platforms include Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
• Social media is helpful for updates, but not the main source for urgent information
