PERSONEL

The Board approved the following personnel items, as well as supplemental contracts for the 2016-2017 school year –

Retirements/Resignations

Christina Clark, 1st grade, New Garden Elementary, resigning effective August 3, 2016.

Jeannette Davidson, medical clerk, Kennett Middle, retiring with a final day of employment of November 30, 2016, and an effective date of retirement of December 1, 2016. [17 years]

Jessica Kilmetz, Supervisor of Language Arts/Reading and Social Studies, resigning effective October 29, 2016.

Jeanna Kim, staff accountant, resigning effective September 9, 2016.

Sara Krieger, speech/language pathologist, Kennett Middle and Greenwood Elementary, resigning effective August 22, 2016.

Terry McCool, Supervisor of Business Services, retiring with a final day of employment of September 15, 2016, and an effective date of retirement of September 16, 2016. [13 years]

Melissa Willis, 4th grade, Bancroft Elementary, resigning effective August 15, 2016.

Requests for leave of absence

Anna McLaughlin, special education, Kennett Middle, an extension of her maternity/ child rearing leave through October 1, 2016, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.

Erin Yacovetti, special education, Greenwood Elementary, a maternity/child rearing leave beginning August 22, 2016, and continuing through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.

SUPERVISOR OF BUSINESS SERVICES

The Board approved the recommendation to employ Ms. Penny Shaffer as the Supervisor of Business Services beginning August 15, 2016. Ms. Shaffer holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Juniata College and received a master of taxation degree from Widener University. She has served as a public and a staff accountant, payroll specialist in the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District, and most recently as the assistant business manager in the Oxford Area School District.

REQUEST FOR STUDENT TRIP

The Board granted permission for the Kennett High School WIN Program to take approximately 30 students for a college visit to Pennsylvania State University. Students will leave after school on Tuesday, October 11 and return the evening of Wednesday, October 12, 2016 but will not miss any school days since October 12 is a holiday. The request was granted in accordance with Board Policy 121, Field Trips.

STUDENT SURVEY

The Board granted Christopher Braunstein, elementary gifted teacher, permission to survey Greenwood Elementary School gifted students and their parents and teachers as part of his research study in pursuit of his master’s degree in Applied Studies in Teaching and Learning from West Chester University. The purpose of the study is to identify how technology can effect student interactions in and reactions to nature. All data collected will remain confidential, no instructional time will be lost, and parental permission will be secured prior to administering the survey.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION AGREEMENT

The District will continue providing extended bus transportation service to five local licensed child care centers, which will allow children attending these centers to be transported to their residential elementary school even though the child care center is located outside the attendance area. The licensed child care centers will reimburse the District for the actual cost of the extended bus service. The Board approved the Transportation Agreement between the Kennett Consolidated School District and the Licensed Child Care Centers.
