The Board approved the following personnel items, as well as supplemental contracts for the 2017-2018 school year –


Ronald Arrants, custodian, Kennett High, resigning effective June 30, 2017.

Johnette Cooke, administrative assistant, Construction and Facilities Department, retiring with a final day of employment of August 11, 2017, and an effective retirement date of August 12, 2017. [18 years]

Matthew Jones, 5th grade, New Garden Elementary, resigning effective July 5, 2017.

Erin McDonnell-Jones, English, Kennett High, resigning effective July 5, 2017.

Erica Oberholtzer, special education, Kennett High, resigning effective June 16, 2017.

Requests for leave

Katey Brubaker, health and physical education, Bancroft and New Garden Elementary, a maternity/child rearing leave beginning on or about November 1, 2017, and continuing through January 26, 2018, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.

Kelly Virgin, English, Kennett High, a Family Medical Leave beginning on or about September 10, 2017, and continuing through November 3, 2017, in accordance with the FMLA and applicable School Board Policy.

Karen DiMascola, English, Kennett Middle. Academy of Notre Dame; Bucknell University (B.A. – certified English 7-12); Wilkes University (M.S. – English).

Amanda Irwin, 4th grade, Bancroft Elementary (LTS through November 10, 2017). Kennett High School; West Chester University (B.S. – certified Grades PK-4 and Grades 5-6).

Adrienne Legg, Spanish, Kennett High. Pennsbury High School; West Chester University (B.A. – certified Spanish PK-12).

Kevin Lentz, English, Kennett High. Abington High School; University of Delaware (B.A. – certified English); Wilmington University (M.A. – educational leadership).

Emily Morris, special education, Kennett Middle. North Penn Senior High School; West Chester University (B.S. – certified special education PK-8 and Grades 4-8).

Rachel Pearson, 3rd grade, Bancroft Elementary. Daniel Boone High School; West Chester University (B.A. – certified Grades PK-4).


The following temporary professional employee is certified as satisfactory by the District Superintendent for professional employee status according to the provisions of the Public School Code: Hritz, Jeremy


The Board approved a rescission of the previously approved 2017-2018 professional development leave for Nicholas Peters, social studies, Kennett High.


The Board approved the Separation and Release Agreement with Roger Martinie.


The Board approved the contract between the Kennett Consolidated School District and Maria del Carmen Aja for parent liaison services during the term of the agreement, July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, at the rate of $35 an hour.


In accordance with the PA Department of Health Guidelines for Pennsylvania Schools for the administration of medications and emergency care, the School District must appoint a Physician Consultant to provide standing orders authorizing the administration of specific over-the-counter medications. Dr. L. Peter Soraruf has served as the District’s physician for many years; however, he retired from practicing medicine effective June 30, 2017. The Board appointed Dr. Michael Kirk as the District’s Physician Consultant beginning July 1, 2017.


The Board adopted the schedule of fees for school events to be held during the 2017-2018 school year.


There is no Regular Meeting scheduled for the month of August 2017. However, the Board must grant authorization for the administration to pay bills that are due and to hire staff that is budgeted. The bills will be reviewed by the Treasurer and presented to the full Board at the September meeting, as will a listing of staff members hired. The Board granted authorization for the administration to pay any bills that come due and to hire new staff that is budgeted during the month of August 2017, with the bills and new hires to be presented to the Board at the Regular meeting in September 2017.
