Carol Aiken, English, Kennett High, retiring with a final day of employment on the last in-service day of the 2016-2017 school year and an effective retirement date the following day, tentatively set for high school teachers at June 15 and 16, 2017, respectively. [25 years]
Stephanie Lluna-Garces, Spanish, Kennett High, retiring with a final day of employment on the last in-service day of the 2016-2017 school year and an effective retirement date the following day, tentatively set for high school teachers at June 15 and 16, 2017, respectively. [24 years]
Rebecca Majeski, administrative assistant to the principal, Kennett High, retiring with a final day of employment of June 30, 2017, and an effective retirement date of July 1, 2017. [22 years]
Requests for leave of absence
Elizabeth Ely, social studies, Kennett High, a maternity/childrearing leave beginning on or about May 5, 2017, and continuing through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.
Kaitlin Fuhr, 4th grade, Bancroft Elementary, a maternity/childrearing leave beginning August 21, 2017, and continuing through on or about November 11, 2017, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.
MaryAnne Heckenberger, ESL, Mary D. Lang K Center, a childrearing leave beginning August 21, 2017, and continuing through on or about January 1, 2018, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.
Courtney Howanski, kindergarten, Mary D. Lang K Center, a maternity/childrearing leave beginning on or about April 13, 2017, and continuing through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable School Board Policy.
REQUEST FOR STUDENT TRIP
The Board granted provisional approval for Kennett’s robotics team, Demon Robotics, to travel to St. Louis, Missouri, on April 26 through 29, 2017, to compete in the World Championship should the team perform well at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. Demon Robotics has never qualified for this event in its six-year history; however, the team is currently ranked 4th in the Mid-Atlantic region and has a chance of qualifying this year. Team members in grades 9 through 12 will miss three days of school.
The District, through legal counsel, negotiated and the Board approved a Settlement Agreement with the parents of a student in order to avoid continued and/or potential disputes or litigation. The Agreement will settle any disputed issues of fact and law but does not constitute an admission of fault or liability by either party. The Parties have agreed to keep the terms of the Agreement in strictest confidence.
PROPOSED IU BUDGET
The Chester County Intermediate Unit provides services to school districts; non-public schools; the state, federal, and county governments; and several foundations and privately owned businesses. These services are divided into Core, Marketplace, and Categorical Services areas for budget purposes. The section the School Board is being asked to approve is the Core budget. These services are paid for by all 12 County school districts and can be used by all without restriction. The 2017-2018 proposed Core budget amounts to $25,768,573, an increase of $959,085 compared to the 2016-2017 projected Core budget.
The Kennett Consolidated School District’s 2017-2018 projected contribution to the Core section of the Chester County Intermediate Unit budget will be $34,581, the same as the actual contributions to the 2016- 2017 Core budget. The Board approved the proposed Chester County Intermediate Unit Core budget for 2017-2018 in the amount of $25,768,573.
OCCUPATIONAL EDUCATION BUDGET
The Occupational Education budget proposed for 2017-2018 amounts to $28,039,563, an increase of $657,069 from 2016-2017. Occupational education programs are supported primarily by district tuition for students attending the school and a prorated charge for maintaining the buildings. Kennett’s 2017-2018 charge for occupational education will be $1,665,841, which is based on Kennett’s 3-year full-time equivalent enrollment average of 81.823 at the vocational technical school. The Board approved the 2017-2018 Occupational Education budget in the amount of $657,069.
